Hello all
I have two black silkie hens and a typical grey silkie Rooster. I have hatched 4 little black chicks and 3 little light coloured ones with brown on them, mostly top of head and the middle of their backs. I guess the black one are hens but not sure.
I hatched these little ones from the first lay of my Silkie hen and she had a 100% hatch rate. Very happy about that and chicks are doing well.
Would love any tips about Silkies and their offspring.
Thanks

Welcome to the Backyard chickens flock. Hope you will enjoy it as much as we do. Sounds like you have some "partridge colored" silkies. There are several dedicated silkie threads on BYC. The longest running is the "Silkie thread,", there are others by color "Buff silkies", "Paint silkies," "Nothing but Partridge silkies," and I think" BBS silkies" (black, blue, splash)

A major thing about silkies is they are extremely difficult to sex before 4-5 mos. of age, and sometimes not till they crow or lay eggs. The other is they go broody often and are one of the best broody breeds.

Would love to see photos of your birds.

Welcome! I'm new here too. I'm excited to hear about your silkies, they are such beautiful birds. Good luck with your new chicks :)
