I bought a new hen from a BYCer. Ever since I brought her home she has acted badly. She sits all day in the same spot. I thought maybe her crest was too big and she couldn't see. So I trimed it back a lot, and put it up with hair tape. I found one of her eyes crusted shut because she had mites all over her face eating her eyes. I dusted her, and put vaseline around her eyes to suffocate the bugs. The mites are gone now. And she can see. But something is really wrong with her. She can't walk. She can't walk to food or water. So I have to put it in front of her. I have to carry her in and out of the coop everyday.

She has been this way the entire time. But I thought at first it was just the crest.

I feel I'm going to loose her. I have no clue whats wrong. She is sitting all day. With her legs splayed out beside her. If she tries to move it seems she just can't use one leg, or her balence is off or something. She just falls over, she kind of rests to one side. I thought something was wrong with a leg. But I checked it over and I can't find a problem. It's really weird. She puts her wing out and tries to help support her if she takes a step when I make her. What is happening to this bird. How did she act when you had her?

I've had several silkies with wry neck. And this just isn't the same. Nothing is wrong with her neck. It seems to be her leg, or something is off with her balence. Please help me.

I'm leaving for a week in a few days, and my mother is taking care of her. I'm scared she won't be here when I get back.

I would try worming her and giving her vitamins and electrolytes. If she had mites that bad it is quite possible that she has internal parasites too. They make chicken vitamins and electrolytes also you can use poly-vi-sol w/o iron. It is an infant vitamin that you can get at just about any drug store.
