I hope I'm putting this in the right place. I acquired 2 silkie chicks today and was hoping somebody could help with color and sex identification. They are supposedly close to 3 weeks old. Thank you in advance for any help!

The brown chick will likely be partridge. The grayish chick will probably be a variation of blue. It’s kind of hard to tell with the lighting but I would guess blue or lavender. Silkies are pretty hard to sex from photos so you’ll have to wait until they grow out.

Thank you! It's been a few years since I had chickens, but if I remember right, it's hard to tell till they crow with silkies right?

I'm guessing partridge for the brown and lavender for the lighter one. Yes, it's really tough to tell gender with Silkies. You can start to tell some around 12 weeks or so, otherwise you have to wait until an egg or a crow.

Sexing won't be able to be done until they are around 4 months old -- the guessing can be started around 3-4 months, but it's 5 months old for a definite.

You have a lighter partridge and possible silver splash is my guess.

They are adorable!

Once they get older you can also look at crest shape. Females are typically rounder while males aren’t as round and often have spanglers. I think that’s the right term but it’s basically really thin feathers coming from the crest that are longer. Crowing is also a pretty good indicator.
