Hello everyone! My broody silkie hatched out 3 adorable silkie chicks a few days ago. I know colors can change drastically from chick down to adult feathering. But I definitely wasn't expecting these colors! I'm very new to chicken genetics so I'd love if someone could help me out.

She went broody before I separated out my breeding groups so here are the potential parents!

Hens:
Blue silver partridge (broody hen that hatched the chicks, so probably not her eggs)
Silver partridge
Lavender
Black with silver leakage?
2 solid blacks (I don't believe are laying yet)

Rooster is a Silver partridge.

Here's some pictures of the chicks!

Thanks in advance😊

All three chicks together!

Here's the potential parents. Please excuse how messy they look our weather has been horribly rainy and everything is mud right now!

I am so sorry, I have no idea - I know nothing about partridge genetics but they sure seem to throw some gorgeous babies. So cute!

That's ok! And thank you. They are adorable! This was my first time hatching eggs from my own little silkie flock. So I'm just curious to know a bit more about what colors they maybe, so I can understand their parents genetics a bit more. I'm completely new to breeding silkies and poultry genetics in general. And this has always been an amazing place to learn!:)

Do they have any little feathers starting to grow in? That may give a clue. One of them looks like it could be lavender, however, for that to be true, the rooster would have to be carrying lavender, which is pretty unlikely in silkies (unless you know he came from lavender lines.) I don’t see a lavender hen in your pics - if you have any pics of your lavender girl, post them! The other two both have the chipmunk stripes that are indicative of partridge so I would guess that they will both end up being gray partridge.

If you have multiple birds carrying lavender, you could have a diluted partridge (not sure what they call that, but think of kind of the Isabel or blue cream look.) It will be pretty easy to tell once they feather out though. The lighter yellow chick is the one I was thinking could be that. Again though, it is fairly rare to have lavender pop up in silkies unless the breeder was working with lavender birds and making splits. I am excited to see how they feather out!

I am also just going to go out on a limb here and say that I would bet that the yellowish chick is a boy based on the comb size at this point. It’s not always a reliable indicator but ends up being the case most of the time. (I know you weren’t asking for that observation but just wanted to share in case you wondered.)
