Hi! I’m going batty trying to figure out if our new chick is male or female. I know silkies are nearly impossible to sex and we sent off a DNA sample, but that’ll be a couple of weeks. The little thing has a lot of typical male chick characteristics. I never get SR but had picked this one up due to bad pasty butt at TSC. We are not allowed to have roos here and I’m trying to figure out how attached to get/if I need to line up a new home. 🥲

ANYWAY! Would love to see pics of your Silkie chicks and if they turned out to be a hen or roo! Feed my insanity please. 🤪

this is my 5 week old sweetheart, kiwi. I think she is silver partridge. She is sweet and cuddly... But she pecked an older hen today, she loves to take risks!!!
I will post my 2 other chicks later!

At 11 weeks, the white has now identified as a cockerel (he started to crow every now and then a few weeks ago) and I’m pretty sure the grey is a pullet.
His comb is puffier, legs/toes more feathered and his crest is less rounded. He also acts more like a male. Even though subordinate to the OEG bantam cockerel, he does challenge now and again.
(And, as usual, I find roosters to be the friendliest chicks and less skittish.)
These are from TSC, where I also felt compelled to rescue a chick with pasty butt (a porcelain booted bantam pullet), but there was a 4 chick minimum purchase, soooo… :idunno:lol:
