Recently had 3 silkie chicks hatch in my incubator(my first!). Both parents are white silkies, but the chicks are very light brown with darker brown streaks. Is this normal, and will they turn white with time?

Congrats on your chicks!!

Do you have a picture?

Click on reply and then click on the symbol of the mountain with the sun over it. If you don't see it then click the button that says "more".
Drag a picture into the area that says "upload file" and let it load. Once loaded, click submit.

Hope this helps.

A lot of my white chicks don't hatch out looking as you'd expect. Most folks are expecting them to be white or pale yellow as fluff balls. With my Silkies, I've gotten chicks that looked partridge (with faint stripes), blue, splash and even dark yellow that have all feathered out white.

I guess it has something to do with white being recessive in Silkies. I don't really breed white, I just have a few because I like them. You'll have to wait and see how they turn out, maybe they'll surprise you :)

Mine are also the partridge with faint stripes as you described. The color was hard for me to describe, but you did it perfectly.

I also have six lavender silkie chicks that are almost breeding age. I haven't heard very much about the lavenders, but they are beautiful birds, and get lots of comments when people see them.
