1) What type of bird , age and weight.
Silkie, about three weeks old. She is half the size of the buff silkie that I got at the same time.
2) What is the behavior, exactly.
Her area around the vent is greatly extended. Her vent is open and she is constantly trying to poop. I have been cleaning the white urine excretions off of her bum for several days not but no solids have been coming out.
3) Is there any bleeding, injury, broken bones or other sign of trauma.
Nope
4) What happened, if anything that you know of, that may have caused the situation.
Pasty butt I guess
5) What has the bird been eating and drinking, if at all.
Drinking some I have not seen her eat.
6) How does the poop look? Normal? Bloody? Runny? etc.
Refer to number 2
7) What has been the treatment you have administered so far?
I put her bum under warm running water and tried to massage the protrusion but it did nothing to help.
8 ) What is your intent as far as treatment? For example, do you want to treat completely yourself, or do you need help in stabilizing the bird til you can get to a vet?
Treat myself
9) If you have a picture of the wound or condition, please post it. It may help.
10) Describe the housing/bedding in use
In brooder box with pine shavings
I am thinking I need to use something inserted into her vent to break up the mass that she cannot pass. Please advise as to if this is ok or what else you think I should do.
