There is no reason a vet still couldn't run a fecal to see if your silkie has cocci. All you would have to do is take some poop [fresh] to them.

Except that many flat out will not do a fecal. Usually a large animal vet will take the plunge, I know mine has.

Yes, treat the peep for cocci. Unfortunately it falls within that age range that cocci could be the culprit although keeping it with a duck could also be a problem.

Boy thats for sure, I have both and I can't see a duck and a chick living in the same space. Ducks are way to messy.

Ok... so I found a vet. $120 later the answer is... (drumroll)

Mites... Wah wah wah... Dang expensive chicken. But I DID also get the fecal lab done and youll be happy to know my little Sinatra is free of intestinal parasites

They gave her some medicine and told me to bleach her cage and I also went and bought mite/lice spray to continue to keep the little buggers at bay.

Thanks for trying to help everyone. "Shes" lucky I really love "her" cause Ive NEVER spent that much on a chicken... nor took one to the vet LOL

But a lesson was learned. I learned how to check my chicken poop (Thanks to Miss Lydia) and what mites look like. And that an adorable little silkie can steal your heart while depleting your wallet (and youll totally think it was worth it)

OH PS: Shes stayed indoors so she doesnt get near my ducks just yet. I havent had problems with them or the chickens as of yet (knocking on wood)

so glad you at least know what was wrong, and it's something treatable..

Yep they can steal our hearts and we have no idea when and how it happens. It just does..

so did they tell you gender?

I really have to quit assuming that the obvious things have been investigated first and removed as a possibility.

Nah they didnt tell me a gender. I dont think they see silkies come through often (If at all) LOL and didnt do a blood test. Ill let it be a surprise anyway

Ill find out when it either lays an egg or crows hehe

Nice surprise either way. We're same place with our duckling, she is an inside duck and we are thinking and hoping girl since we have 2 drakes already and only 7 girls but most who have seen pics say drake. so we're just waiting. It doesn't matter to us if boy or girl just would make it alot better for the girls is it is girl,

especially since my 2 drakes got into it this morning thank goodness no blood but it sure makes for alot of upset.

also wanted to tell you I had a mite episode last year, yuck and after doing a clean out of coops and chickens, I found a product called Epernix pour-on it is used like front-line for dogs you just put some drops on their skin on the back of their necks, I use it every 3 months. it also will take care of internal parasites. no egg withdrawl either.

I bet she's alot happier chicken this morning.
