All of my silkie hens have been laying on eggs. We had the very first baby hatch last night... I discovered the little guy this morning. When I found it, it was looking straight up and stumbling over. I picked it up and tried to give it some water... couldn't drink on it's own because it couldn't keep it's balance and would not look down. However, if I hold it up sideways it will drink on it's own... won't eat anything either because it can't look down. It will try to run around but just stumbles. It is okay other than this... this is how I found it and I have never experienced this before with any chicks I've had. Anybody else ever had this happen? What was the outcome??

When an older silkie has this happen, it can be from selenium and vit e deficiency (or other deficiency), being pecked on the head, or infection.

For a brand new chick I am guessing thiamine def. but am not sure.

Thanks so much! That is exactly what my little guy/gal is doing. Hopefully I can help it some.
