I got 3 mixed bantams a week ago that were sweet and liked being held from the start. They’ve gotten more sweet every day. I got 4 silkies chicks today and none of them want to be held at all and struggle the hold time you time. Do I just keep picking them up so they eventually stop minding? Or will that make the fearful?

I don't handle my chicks as often as some people. When their feathers are coming in they don't like to be held because it hurts so there are only a few days where they're really downy and its not enough to make them friendly. I just skip it. When they're bigger and feathered out and ready for treats like scratch or meal worms then I start feeding them from my hand and that's worked to make most of my hens friendly. I am not a chicken cuddler though-I like my girls friendly enough not to claw my kid's eyes out or to be happy being picked up for examination but not much else. I don't know a lot about silkies but to a certain extent friendliness can be a breed thing. My Leghorns are a pain to catch if they get out of the run but they don't freak out when I do catch them. Most of my other breeds will squat down for me and don't mind my kid lugging them around the yard.
