After losing all our chickens to a bobcat, we've revamped the coop and run and are starting over with a new flock.

My question is... Is it safe to have silkie chicks with standard size chicks roughly the same age? Or should I stagger it by getting the silkie chicks first, then wait a few weeks before getting a variety of standard size chicks?

Thank you,
Kara

If they grow up together it works fine. I have six full size hens and three silkie hens together. They get along great. My smallest buff silkie is my # 2 under boss. Funny to watch a two lbs hen push six lbs birds around.

I agree with the above, both bantam chicks and standard sized chicks can be raised together, no problem. :) Unlike many would expect, even the smallest peeps don't usually get picked on by their much larger broodermates because they don't know the difference. :jumpy To put it in perspective, three of my Old English Game bantams grew up with Welsummers and Call ducklings, and everything went as smoothly as one could hope for. :)
Enjoy your babies!

I raised my silkie with a mixed flock of heritage standard breeds all from day olds. She holds her own! Almost 2 years old now.
