My brave hen Betty sat on eggs that didn't hatch for weeks. And when I brought the 5 Cream Legbar home she tucked them in and was a happy hen momma. I realized that Legbars we're going to be to large for my setup. Silkie chicks came in Wednesday and I bought four home. Betty kinda was okay with them and they slept in dog cage with momma and five three week old Legbars. When I went out to let them out, the four silkies were in corner huddled by themselves. When I opened door Betty wouldnt go out and then is pecked one of the silkie. It didn't look friendly at all. Then she pecked another one hard.
I removed the silkies to safer place.
I'm ok with hand raising the silkies. Last year I let momma hen hatch five and the ones that are still with me are not as friendly as my first chicks. This morning my four little ones danced around in their bucket. Even though it is in the 90's, I am adding heat lamp today and trying to set up space for them. I need to find a home for the legbars so the silkies can have more space.
I can't post this without paying a picture tax, so here it is.
