All my chickens are free range. When should I release my Sikie? Its 8 weeks old now.

I release mine by short trial periods where I can watch how they all do. Mine are free range too, so I have noticed integration doesn't seem to be nearly as upsetting to anyone as whats in the books. I have had three hens with chicks reintegrate with their little ones just fine over the last two months. Of course if you don't have a momma watching out for the little one, I would be more vigilant observing everyones reaction.

I keep my babies locked in the coop for a few days, then, since my run is large and escape artists find a way out easily, I divide the run to the original first section. They are allowed out in there for another week. After that, I open the section and they all wander in the big section, any who escape, know the barn, so they don't stray far. I even let them out the human door, where there's no fence, while I clean and feed them. Supervised free ranging, lol.
