How many generations would it take to breed the red comb out of a silkie? My rooster has a red comb but i think the hen doesnt but one of the hens does i think

This is something I'm going to be doing also, especially for my Giant Silkie Project.
Gonna guess between 6-10 generations, based on both parents used.

I'd just keep breeding from the dark faced hen, & cull any offspring that's produced with light/red faces.

I also gonna be culling males every season as my roo has a single comb lol this will be a side project most likely lol my other silkie pen ill be hatching and keeping better looking rooster mine is ugly lol i just wasnt sure if both had red if its possible for a black comb to pop in or not

Since he's single combed, the Walnut comb is dominant over single. But you can get pea, & rose combs out of the crossing of the two comb types. But if any of the hen's carry one copy of the recessive single comb gene, then you can get single combs also.

Getting Black combs/faces shouldn't be too hard. Maybe lucky, & get a few on the first try.
