I hatched it from my own flock. It is only half silkie. The other half is very possibly my splash blue laced red wyandotte. Its wings are coming in and appear to be almost a combination strand by feather strand of black and white, rather than being actually grey. I'm wondering if it will end up laced at some point.
I haven't really seen down like that on a standard colored silkie chick (not that I have a lot of experience yet). Perhaps it is some kind of mixed color? I've seen some interesting down in pictures of babies from mixed color flocks. Either way I'd love seeing how this little cutie turns out!
Someone with more experience with the genes that contribute to certain down colors/patterns may give some better insight. I know there are some very knowledgeable folks over in the "Exhibition, Genetics, & Breeding to the SOP" section of the forum.
