This roo is developing very slow, slower than his hatch mates. He’s big, but his comb and wattle grow are slow.
I’m wanting to thin out my roo population.
just wondering with this beauty, will this comb grow out into a walnut comb yet? Or is that not something we can foresee?

Hopefully someone with more experience with comb genetics will chime in but I'll give it a shot.

It's looking to me like that comb probably isn't a walnut comb or at the very least it's got some modifying genetics making it look odd. Walnut combs are made up of pea x rose. I've heard the rose portion of the comb is somewhat fragile and can sometimes die so when the baby develops it is left with a pea comb.

Whether it's an odd looking walnut or an odd looking pea I would very much doubt the comb will ever look like the type of walnut comb typically found on silkies.

He is a pretty little guy though! I'm terrible about thinning out my cocks/cockerels, I've got so many but they all have different strengths/weaknesses so until I find a really well rounded male lots will be staying. Good luck thinning out your roos, I know how tough it can be to choose! :barnie
