I went to an Menonite auction last Saturday and got the most fantastic deal on this coop! I had seen it for $995 locally, $700 in Lancaster and $625 on line.
I got it for $400! The gentelman I bought it from makes them and told me the lumber & materials run about $300-$325. I am very pleased with it. t's 4 X 6.
I waterproofed the exterior, added locks, painted the floor and nestboxes and added a loft today ( 2'dX4'w & 1 1/2' w X 4' long). Of course, it's for silkies, so I added a pickett fence to the top so one could get pushed off during the night. It gives me more floor space and they'll be able to look out the window.
I just need to add screening to the side vent for fly control, finish painting & carpeting thier interior ramp, hang the heat lamp and these 4 week olds are out of the house! Monday will not get here soon enough.
