Just wanted to show off some of my Silkie x Ameraucana birds, all grown up! I am breeding them together now, to produce silkied blue-layers.

What breeds could I mix to make a really really super broody hen?

I have a Silkie x OEGB and she's the broodiest thing I've ever seen.

She first went broody after her first couple of eggs, in the winter. Then her chicks were 6 weeks old and she went broody again and the cycle goes on.

She'll set any eggs.

I'm not a breeder but if you were to breed a silkie to an araucana or ameraucana and then breed again with more silkies and add in some araucana or ameraucana every so often and using you best green and blue egg layers would you eventually be able to have a chicken that looks like a silkie but lays blue or green eggs because that would be amazing

I have a Black/Blue (non-standard, non-bearded) Silkie roo who is trying to schmooze the larger ladies in his harem. Waiting to see if he ever gets it together with our Black Orpington, who is at least twice his size.

He does fine with the Mottled Cochin Bantam and now if we could only figure out which eggs were hers I'd hatch a few. LOL
