one of my 8 week old Silkies started crowning Sunday. Is that common? It seems REALLY early. Has anyone else had silkies crow that young?

Ha! I was just awakened this morning by a new crower that is still in the brooder, in my house! He was FOUR WEEKS old on this past Saturday!!

Most of my boys around here start crowing between 8 weeks, some take a lot longer. One of the boys outside just started crowing at 4 months. If you have other roos at your place, the young ones learn from them.

Oh...thanks for the reply, did not know they started that early. Im new to chickens, so I was suprised! He is a friendly little guy, but He is going to have to go

Well, sorry to hear that. I really love my boys, they are much more personable than the girls are. I am sooooo glad to live in the sticks! I can have as many roos as I want... and then some.

Yes.....I wish we lived in the sticks as well, but for now we don't, so Ill have to find him a good home. I just posted some pics of my Barred Rock chicks on the breed/gender forum. If you have a second and know how to sex Barred Rocks, have a look, and let me know what you think......Thanks
