I checked on my girls and one silkie was laying on her side unable to walk and use her legs, I immediately thought she was dying. I picked her up and brought her to the water and helped her with valence while she drank. She drank a ton and then had more energy to walk about four steps then would sit. Her vent is pulsating and she seems to have has liquid coming out bc her whole backside is wet. After googling I think she’s egg bound and gave her a 20min warm bath, messages her tummy, dried her, rubbed the outside of her vent gently with vegetable oil and now have her on a warm towel in a small animal crate in a dark quite space. What do I do now??

I’d say you’ve done it all right . Did you feel an egg in her? Was the stuff coming out yellow? Like a yolk?

Good luck I hope she’s ok

I can’t say if I felt an egg.... I’ve never gone through this before so not sure what I’m looking for. I’m too worried I’ll break it if I put my finger inside her vent so I just stayed on the outside while the vent kinda sucked up the oil on my finger. I couldn’t tell what color the fluid was. Her feathers were just wet I didn’t see the fluid come out.

Photos of her and the poop?
Does she still have a discharge coming from the vent?

Feel her abdomen for any bloat, swelling or what feels like fluid - cup your hand under her vent and between the legs - what does that feel like. (Compare her to other hens if you need to). Check her crop first thing in the morning before she eats/drinks to see if it has emptied.

When was the last time she laid an egg - have all of her eggs been normal?
