Its my first time incubating eggs, (silkies) in my incubator which are on day 17 (OR SO I THOUGHT)

I just read that day one isn’t actually day one, day two is, so I guess they’re technically on day 16.

Although when I have candled, they have been really consistent with the day I thought they were on. I’ve been comparing to development charts or videos on YouTube etc… and one even looks further along than that.

I have attached a couple of images from day 14 (day 13?) when I candled. As well as my data comparison for my Govee hygrometers*

I keep reading bantam eggs hatch earlier and to go into lockdown day 16/17. I’m scared of doing it too early or too late and killing them 😟

What day do you suggest I lock them down?

* The blue line with the big dip in temperature and peak in humidity is when I was salt testing the hygrometer. The purple line dip was when the third hygrometer was added and it’s coming up from room temp.

I hatch silkie eggs and twice have had them pip on Day 18, thus, I do a five-day lockdown.

Is that a blood ring though?

Regardless, eggs technically don't need to be turned their last week. We all just turn them a few days, then do lockdown, so if questionable, I'd pull the racks/turner and stop turning them at the least for now, then jack the humidity up to 60% for a day, then 70% after that.

Thanks for your reply @Debbie292d !!

I thought so too but I think it was just a weird vein as it was moving 😂 I tried to upload a video but it wouldn’t let me.

All the chicks were quite active when I candled, so I wasn’t worried. Unless you can get blood rings before they die?

To upload a video, post it on YouTube first, then link it back here.

I do that all the time so I would. It won't hurt and better safe than sorry!
@Debbie292d ok so it can’t harm them? I read before that if it’s too early then the air cells don’t ‘draw down’ enough lol. Not that I really know what that means.

There’s so much conflicting information out there!

I’ll upload to YouTube now and share, I’d love to hear your thoughts on their development and if they look at the right stage… you sound very experienced with all your badges! 😁

Thanks so much for your help… I really appreciate it!

I incubate a LOT, and 99% of the time it's silkies. Literally hundreds if not hitting a thousand by now. It's just lots of experience but I read about new things too, just I don't change much if anything. I just hatch using the traditional temp of 99.5F, 40-50% humidity until lockdown, then to 70% and do pretty well. You will too! After a few times of this, you'll be a pro! ❤️

@Debbie292d Thank you!! Wow that’s a lot of silkies!! Definitely had the right person answer my post LOL

I have now created a YouTube account and uploaded the video… would love to hear what you think!

@Debbie292d I took the turning rods out and put the net in. I will follow your advice of upping the humidity to 60% for a day then 70%.

I did a quick candle and weigh while I put them in and they have all grown so much since I last did it that I can barely see anything at all… just blood vessels at the bottom in each. They’re very full eggs!!! So I guess the blood ring one in question is still alive (or at least was until very recently lol)

I couldn’t see any movement in two of them, but one was having a little party 😂
