I just got some silkies and I am curious about their feet as i have one that doesnt utilize the toes as intended. The nail is overgrown I believe and ive clipped them. But I would appreciate opinions from people that know more.

What do you mean "Doesn't Utilize Toes As Intended"?

Can the bird walk?

A video of movement/actions may be helpful. Upload video to Youtube and provide a link.

Alternatively, video can be added to the BYC Gallery, just let us know where to find it.

Age of birds and photos of what they look like are welcome too:)

I apologize for my vagueness. I will get a video once I get their isolation cage finished up. What I meant as 'intended' is that the toe is never in the correct position. Like the picture its on the side and thats how the bird positions it. The bird can for sure stand, havent seen them walk yet just because Ive had them in a carrier and bathed them because they were dirty.

I have raised/bred silkies for years and have never had toe issues other than a couple of curled toes on newly hatched. For this grown bird, I'm sorry I don't understand this. I'd get them out of the carrier and let them walk. Maybe it would straighten out once it gets a chance to stretch out and walk around.

The video is refusing to load, but I did post the one with the bugs. That one worked. The bird is just walking on the sides of her toe instead of straight on with the pad

If they have mites, the best thing to do is powder them and where they live with permetherin powder/garden powder. Be sure to get it all over them especially under their wings and butt.

Something like this. Repeat in a week as there could be eggs left behind, so you need to kill any new ones that hatched.

I just brought them home today, and got them situated. I just wanted to confirm if it was mites or something else.
