Silkie gender question.

I'll be buying some silkies soon and I was wondering if it is true that you can't sex baby silkies and that the only way to really know is to wait for them to crow? I'd love to be able to have chicks, but I can't end up with any roosters.

No way to tell other than DNA testing; which runs about $30 or more per bird. If you get birds 6 or more months old you may be able to tell. By the time they are a year you can almost always tell.
