silkie genetics help

I just saw some chicks my friend hatched out like this. They are mostly buff, with some blue on the back and butt. Not a true partridge, as partridge chicks have stripes and spots. But they will look similar when they grow up.

Blue & buff breeding dilutes black pigment in the buffs that receive a copy of blue. Some offspring will be blue, some buff and some mixed. The chicken calculator is very good about predicting outcomes, but it makes assumptions about the specific genotype based upon the phenotype; for example, for blues it pretty much expects that the birds are E based. Most silkies are e^b based. Makes a big difference. That said, it is an amazing piece of software

just play with the genes before hitting "CALCULATE."
