They don't roost. They sleep in a pile. They are very broody. They like to dig holes. They are fun.

I have a whole flock of silkies myself. A few things I can think of is that some silkies have vaulted skulls and that means their brains protrude out of their skulls so care should be taken that they don't get pecked in the head if they are vaulted . Another thing is they don't have barbicels on their feathers that's what gives them the furry look but also because of that water won't run off their feathers like other chickens. They get soaked to the bone so they should be kept dry. Their. Feathers act like fur when wet and won't dry easily. Another tip is they will need a good vitamin because they can be prone to vitamin defiency. So give a good multi vitamin with a E in it. Another thing is they are very docile birds so they are prone to preditors. You need to protect them from that. Also different breeds tend to pick on them because they are so docile so you will need to watch that. Make sure they are fed a good complete wholesome food because of their tendency for vitamin defiency. Those are some major things I can think of. Other than that you will find them to be really loving and cuddley. Mine will purr while they sleep on my lap. They are truly precious and will bring great joy.i hope this helps. Any questions just send me a message and I'll be happy to help or answer any other questions you may have. God bless.

Thanks realsis! I too will be getting some silkies in May and this info is good to know. I will be heading down to a local farm to pick them up. I've requested 4 but I am sure that once I see them I'll add to that number. Good thing I made the coop and run big enough to hold 8-10.

How fun! Your going to love♡ them! I'm hooked on silkies. They are great! ! Each one has his or her own unique personality. They are so much fun. And they are good layers too! One of my girls gives me a egg every day except sunday.so she gives six eggs a week! The eggs are smaller but still very delicious! Silkies are excellent mothers and can go broody often because they want so badly to hatch chicks they would hatch a rock if they could! Many folks use them to brood other eggs and they don't mind at all. My favorite thing out my silkies is when they purr. They purr when petted or purring when dust bathing or purr when they found a delicious morsel to eat. They also purr when snuggled together before they sleep. They are the sweetest things! ! Most silkies are friendly as babies but once in awhile you will get a shy one. They usually stop once they have laid and become just as cuddley. Mine get along great but when they are little and establishing their order you might see some chest bumping, it's normal. They will bond with you and want to be held if you handle them often from babies on. They love attention and treats. Try and choose healthy treats for them. I just know they will bring great joy into your life! They are so tame some people even keep them as house chickens and they wear a chicken diaper! My girls go to their run outside during the day, it's a covered and enclosed run to protect them. But they come in my house at night. They have their own room all set up for them! Yes I'm crazy for silkies! I'm sure you will have so much fun with yours! Good luck and God bless
