Hi Friends, Today, Baby is still with us! I'm so glad she made it through the night. I gave her some water mixed with "Broiler Booster" for electrolytes and vitamins, and also some "Quick Chick" for energy. Both of those came from Macmurray when I hatched chicks a while back. I gave her this with a dropper and she accepted it real nicely. She seemed to be thirsty. I tried putting her with the other chickens this morning first to see if she would eat or drink on her own and she just stood there and would not move. She is still just standing and sitting now on my couch. She is comfy there. I have a small plate of food beside her in case she decides she wants to eat a little. She still feels warm like she has fever and still has a egg size mass on the right side of her chest.
There is a vet who see's bird patients coming in at 6pm tonight that I may bring her to but hubby says it's a waist of time and vets can't help chickens

I may bring her anyway despite what he says. Baby is worth saving. You should have seen her drink from that dropper this morning like she's done it 100 times! She tilted her head back and cracked her beak open and drank drank drank. She is a real trooper and hanging in there. I will try and get a picture of her on here for yall to see her. So glad she is hanging in there. From the other posts it sounds like the pressure needs to be relieved from that "bubble" asap - I see you saw that post and you're on the case. .....

Baby is doing a little better today so far. Drinking from dropper of water. It looks like she may have pecked a few times at the food I have down beside her. She still isn't walking around too much but she is breathing normal and has stopped that hick up type movement she was doing yesterday. I will post and let yall know what the vet says tonight. He comes in at 6pm tonight and see's bird patients so that's good I guess. Don't know if he's ever seen a silkie but who knows. I am so glad Baby is still with us. I had a hard time sleeping last night worrying about her. She is hanging in there. Who knows,,,,maybe she is going to pull through. Will post more later, Julie

Since I just had to put my Daisy down because of a head injury, I'd really like for you to watch for signs. Silkies have an unusual skull- it doesn't grow together-so they are prone to head injury.
Watch for stroke symptoms, walking backwards, walking in circles, crooked neck, walking or standing with her head between her legs, or anything that may point to that type of injury. Unfortunatly, I got to Daisy too late but if you notice any of these signs, PLEASE tell us ASAP (and tell your vet) because we can get her on vitamins and meds that will help her totally recover.
As far as your vet never seeing a Silkie... a bird is a bird is a bird, and he should know that. I would mention what I told you about their skull. Here is a case study I suggest you look at before you go to the vet. Thanks to dlhunicorn for this information.
 
Guess what! Baby just ate some fruit cocktail! It's one of her favorites. I cut the pieces up into tiny little bits and she chowed down. It's the first time she's eaten since last night! I'm so excited. That's a good good sign for Baby! I think the prayers are working! Thanks you guys! Julie
 
Thanks Carrie, that's very interesting. Good info to know. I will certainly watch for signs. Last night she was doing this weird hick up type movement as though she was having trouble swallowing. She was breathing fine though. Today she is no longer doing this. She is very alert but is not walking very much. She just sits and rests. I brought Lovey back in to sit with her and I just fed them both some fruit as I always do and they both ate well. No signs of the hawk today,,,we are keeping a close eye though. Poor chickens hanging out on my back porch afraid to go digging and scratching in woods like they normally do. Can't blame them for that.
I have found a scratch on Baby's skin up around the top of her wing where it meets her neck. Feathers are missing but I don't see blood. The skin looks rough though so I put some antibiotic on it. She seems fine so far today. I'm thrilled she ate something. That's so good! Talk more later, thank you for your info and advice! Julie
