Silkie hen laying an egg every day. Is this normal?

Some people seem to believe that every chicken on the planet is exactly like every other chicken of that same breed. That's not the case, each chicken is an individual. They have their own personality, productivity, and traits. Breeds do have tendencies but you have to have enough chickens for the averages to mean something. One chicken or even two is not nearly enough.

If you had a thousand Silkie hens you could easily average 3 eggs per week, maybe more, maybe less. But any one hen could be raising the average or dropping it. Silkies tend to go broody a lot. Any one Silkie might lay what she considers enough for a clutch and go broody. Any one Silkie may never go broody. If you have a thousand Sikies you will get a lot of broody hens, but you can't randomly pick one out and say whether she will or won't.

Is that Silkie hen laying practically every day a cause for worry? Not in my book, it's natural variation. And it says nothing about how your other Silkie will lay. Just consider yourself lucky to get a good producer. You could easily get one that lays one egg a week, they are out there.

Thank you!! I am thankful she is a good producer Just wanted to make sure she was okay.
