Hi,

I have a silkie hen, and she's been panting alot these past two days. It hasn't been all that hot. I noticed tonight she has isolated herself from others.. which is extremely odd as her and another silkie are always side by side and sleep together.

Other than heat stress, what could cause panting... she doesn't have any nasal issues or water stool. All the poop that I see is pretty normal.

Why would my silkie hen be panting.. she's been panting the past two days. Has isolated herself. Which is very odd. She's usually glued to the our other silkie.
Poop seems fine.

It's not overly hot here and they can also free range. They have access to shade.. none of the others are panting. So other than heat, what can cause panting. She kind of looks unwell. No discharge from nose or eyes..
Sorry to hear that your hen might be feeling unwell. How old is she? Have you checked her for mites and lice? Has her crop been emptying overnight? It should be completely flat in the mornings. Panting can be a sign of pain in chickens. Is there a chance she has an injury? Can she stand alright? I would give her a really thorough exam if she were mine. Report back with any abnormal findings.

When was her last egg?

How old is she?

I'd work on hydration, give her sugar water and get some Extra Calcium into her. Calcium Citrate+D3, once daily for 3-5 days.

See that her crop is emptying and check her for lice/mites.
