Silkie Holiday Hatch-a-long

@KV Silkies Thank you! Talking to you and others here on BYC made me feel a lot better about the situation. This is the best support group and learning center for hatching eggs. Everyone I know thinks I'm weird for hatching eggs and putting so much heart into it. Here I feel right at home talking to people all over the country who are just like me and enjoy the same hobbies. :)

VERY much agree with you there. I love this site, there is so much info here and sharing with people that "get it" and understand what we're going through hatching is invaluable. I totally appreciate everyone on this site and all their support and info too.

I candled my blood ring at lunch quick in the closet, I am still so on the fence. I grabbed the wrong egg first since I haven't taken anyone out yet but a couple that were totally clear, and I am looking at this egg and think I saw a little dot moving around in there... sooo darn tough to see! but I about had a spazz attack that MAYBE I have 2 eggs growing! altho it looks so different than my egg that is on track, wondering if it's develooping late? no clue what else that little moving dot would have been tho!

1000

Here are my 3. They look like yours @jorey !
I wish I could keep these guys.
My husband said I can't keep any hatchlings until we get our coop rebuilt. I found a great guy who is going to buy them all for bug control around his house. I'm glad they'll get to stay together. :love

Oh I do hope your coop is rebuilt soon too! You have lovely babies! They are very beautiful! We don't have a coop. Our 3 are in a 2nd bathroom. The tub is their brooder. They are 4 weeks now and watch TV with us. The Sizzles fly though, it's adorable! They were running on the bed and started to fall off and flew back up! The silkie doesn't fly though, she just watches the other 2. They are so nice. We're waiting for them to get full grown so we can fit them with chicken diapers.

oh my gosh the silkie pics you guys posted are sooooo cute! I candled and weighed last night, and did finally decide that it was a bloodring so I tossed everyone but my one single developing egg... I did crack open the rest and eggtopsy... and yep, all were nada, and the blood ring was in fact a blood ring.

total bummer, but glad I did it before any exploded and took out my little survivor. sooo hope this little bugger makes it to hatch! I saw it's little beak in there last night, not pipped through or anything, but just the side shot of it, too cute!!!!

my husband is building my coop this spring, have the frame pretty much done, just need to get the doors in place and then the fencing, but with my lone chick if all goes well it will be inside in a little brooder until I hopefully hatch friends... the next batch is arriving next week, trying sunny florida this time.

feeling much more knowledgable about what's going on for this next try...
oh yeah, my little kids told me last night not to worry that my dead chicks (eggs I tossed) were all in heaven.

thought that was pretty cute.

that was my 5 year old telling me this, they were all excited watching me crack open all the eggs...

You're doing better than us with the coop. We thought about building a coop but then they looked so cute in the tub. But only an hour ago one flew out, silkie cochin cross and I heard yelling from up above, "honey quick, hurry." I was laughing so hard. So now that he's in panic mode, we may just get that coop after all! In the meantime, we have a large dog cage, that we plan to prop up and let them fly around in there for a while. Guess we'll be looking at online "coops" tonight. It'll be fun to build something! The youngest was in boy scouts so he likes woodworking. This has been so educational! I'm so happy you have children too! It's so good for children to learn hands on like this!
