We got "her" on Craigslist as a buddy for my sole surviving cochin from a bear attack. I figured getting two broody breeds would lend itself well to rebuild my flock next spring. I know silkies sometimes scream... and "she" has made some screamy noises before, but this morning it was a bit too cock-a-doodle-do for me. And it went on for quite some time. Can anyone tell me if she is a he? Apparently, "she" is about 5 months.

I would like to see a head forward closeup with crest pulled back to display full extent of comb. The pictures aren't detailed enough (clear) so I can see other gender clues. But comb appears to be wide which usually indicates a male.

That tail also makes me think roo, but it lacks the head streamers I'd expect to see on a silkie cock. He probably doesn't have them because he's so young. It'll be easier to tell when the bird's adult plumage comes in at around 1yr old.

Here's a couple cocks featuring the streamers I've learned to look for.

I'm sorry that looks like a roo to me, with bearded, the female do not tend to have waddles... well mine don't, and the males have large combs, and the females are very tiny...
