SILKIE
June/July Hatch-Along!
:jumpy

Hello everyone, this is my first time doing a hatch-along thread!

I am going to be hatching some of my own Silkies eggs as well as one Booted Bantam x D'Anvers egg.

I will be using the Rcom 10 Pro Plus. I have used it with great previous success with some of my Coturnix Quail eggs.

However, this is my first time ever attempting to hatch my Silkies eggs. I know the incubator works, now I am testing to see if the Cockerel works :lau

I know for sure he's doing the job but I've yet to check if he's fertilising the eggs. Well soon find out!

I know the D'Anvers Cockerel is doing the job as the Booted Bantam's eggs are fertile. We cracked one yesterday to check.

I will be setting 10 eggs in the incubator. I currently have 9 which I'll put in tonight then I'll add a 10th from my white Silkie tomorrow since she's laying everyday. Yes it'll be a day behind but I done that with my Quails and it worked alright.

Here are the eggs:

This is her first ever egg laid so I'm not expecting much from it but worth a try.

I'm classing this batch as a practice batch. I've never done chicken eggs in an incubator before so let's see how this goes!

This batch is due to hatch on the 16th of July!

Anyone else's currently hatching Silkies or other chicks, feel free to share them here :D

I bought some Silkie eggs (and some Black Marans) to put under my broody Buff Orpington, Lola. She has proved to be a very distractible broody (I finally had to shut her out of her private run, keep her in the coop alone and block the window where she could see the other chickens) and she's settled down on her nest for real today. I'm hoping the chicks haven't been left to cool for too long (she is good about sitting on them at night and it's really warm in the day).

Might candle them Friday. Don't want to disturb her They're supposed to hatch on/around July 10 but I might be overly optimistic.

I hope something comes of the eggs for you.

I have 9 silkie bantam eggs from my silkie coop under my broody hen Greyey. Most of them will probably be Blue, black, splash, and maybe some Gray Partridge. They are due to hatch the 17th of July! Heres a picture of my Frizzled Satin rooster named Sizzie(when he was younger). He is the father of all of the eggs.:)

Good luck to you and your hen Greyey on hatching some eggs!

Aw Sizzle is adorable! :love

They're due to hatch around the same time as mine so we may be posting chicks here together.

Egg Update:

So, in my original post I said I was going to add an extra egg from my white Silkie the day after.

However, I bought some new pullets that day and when I brought them home, the pure bred partridge laid an egg. I know it should be fertile.

Straight it went into the incubator instead of my white Silkies.

If it hatches a half decent pure bred partridge Cockerel, I may be tempted to keep him. We'll see!

So that's my 10 spaces fillled in the incubator, we'll see what happens.

Here's the partridge pullet that the egg came from:
