Hi all, my 2 yr old Blue silkie is falling over like she's drunk. I haven't noticed anything different with her until today, when I let the girls out she was the last to come out. As she walked she stubbled as if he balance was off. I brought her in immediately and she won't eat or drink, although she does have something in her crop. She is still noisy and a bit feisty and not that happy bout being inside. Her poo is green Ish and is really smelly. I have checked her vent and I don't think she's egg bound. I hope someone can please help x

I'm by any means no expert, but it sounds similar to what happened to my silkie over the past weekend. He wouldn't eat or drink, lethargic, no balance, bad diarrhea, and appeared shaggy and unkept. His crop was also full. He died from coccidia on Monday. Its an intestinal parasite that kills pretty quickly. He wasn't digesting his food and was completely backed up, which was why his crop was full despite not eating. Amprolium is what is used to combat this(brand name corid). Like I said before, I am no expert and just had my first run in with this parasite... But it sounds very similar to what I just experienced so I thought I would share... Especially since coccidia kills pretty quickly. I would try to find a vet pretty quickly, or research coccidia and see what you think.

Thanks britsbantams, I have made an appointment with a specialist vet for tonight. I've looked up coccidia, looks like it could be, somebody else posted a reply on another site saying they think it could be mereks. I'm really not sure, she has some symptoms of some then not others. She's asleep at the min, she's been inside for bout 4 hrs and won't eat or drink. Hope I can you get sorted, I adore my girls. Thanks again x

HI! have two year old silikes and an Ericona. Sweet-tweet one of my silikies, started losing balance, toppleing and wobbling around. She lay there one wing out all the time. She would eat and drink but could never perch herself up to eat. The others carelessly walked over her so I moved her to a separate cage. She soon died in peace. It was about a 2 week prosesse. 1 month later, Halkeye my Ericona got the same way. Always acting drunk, laying there 1 wing out. When she could walk, she was off balecne, head tilted left. She soon died. Penguin, my silike, now has it. It just started but is getting worse! PLEASE tell me what it is and how I can save my bestfriends! THIS WOULD MEAN THE WORLD TO ME! :'( I cant bear to watch my chickens die.... PLZ...... anything would help- Rachel

Sorry she is sick. It could be Mareks disease, botulism poisoning, aspergillosis, or something else. Mareks is common in silkies unfortunately. Here are 2 links to info:

Rachel in so sorry that you are going through this too, it's torture watching them. The vet I saw last night said he was confident after an examination it is egg peritonitis. He has given us anti biotics and anti inflammatories. I am already seein a difference in Claudia, she's still a bit wobbly but appears to be bit better. Can you not go to a vet? X
