Hi!

My silkie laid her first egg on Christmas eve. Her first egg was quite thin and brittle. She then laid her second egg roughly 2 whole weeks later. I just picked up from my coop what i believe is her 4th egg since christmas eve. I am confused as to why her eggs always look so strange. I have attached photos of the most recent egg.
A bit of info about her...she has an amazing little life and free ranges allll day long with my other hens and she also has a great diet which consists of layer feed, scratch mix, scraps, and all the bugs and grubs she finds in the garden.
What i want to know is why she isnt laying much at all and why her eggs are weird looking

For one silkies don’t lay many eggs and chicken eggs can be a bit deformed for their first ones.

However, from a bit of research, i read that wrinkly eggs can be a sign of stress or overcrowding. (The most common) does either of those sound possible?

The over crowding aspect, probably not because she free ranges on half an acre all day until night time. The stress might be more likely as she is the only silkie I have and she seems to be at the bottom or 2nd bottom of the pecking order (i have another hen who is slightly deformed and she shares bottom spot of the pecking order with silkie). I dont see her get bullied a lot and dont see many feathers anywhere. She just gets pecked every now and then.. nothing over the top or brutal.

If it were my chicken i would keep an eye on her and see if she keeps laying those types of eggs. If it continues i would then do something about it cause it could be something more severe.

Just my thoughts.

What would you suggest I do if this does continue?

If it does continue then i would look more deeply into her behavior.
Chickens mask it well so just because she isn’t acting ill that doesn’t mean shes not.

And if she continues, this might be something you want to read on. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&ved=2ahUKEwiEg_X6wvP8AhX2ElkFHRMpBHcQFnoECA8QAw&url=https://poultry.extension.org/articles/poultry-health/common-poultry-diseases/infectious-bronchitis-in-poultry/&usg=AOvVaw2wMRU1XcKcnA3H_AmV9hiO

For now, i would say keep an eye on her and make sure shes acting okay.
Im not an expert with eggs so if she seems to act very off or her egg laying gets worse, im sure there would be a lot of educated people who know more about this then i do to help you

Just saw some information on this website that refers to this egg as a slab sided egg -https://cluckin.net/abnormal-chicken-eggs-35-egg-problems-explained.html#mcetoc_1ec35q0ea6
