hi everyone, i just got 2 silkies, about 5 months old? anyway, one of them seems to have walking issues- they were with standards, and this one wouldn't come out of the coop- here is a video to them, the darker one walks very stiff-

well, she is in her forever home, they are my house chickens, just lost my first 2 silkies, and hubby got these to help heal my heart... wonder if there is anything i can do to help her unstiffin?

Can you post something with just that bird moving around?

Check its feet. It looked almost like toes were up off the floor in one spot when the foot was on the floor.

Sorry for her pain... maybe she just needs a good checking over, perhaps a nice foot massage (my silkies loves some warm water, sudsy soap and a good massage).

You said "house chickens"? They live in with you? (I have 3 that live in a nice rabbit hutch in the sun room and my hubby is building a nice little doghouse style "rabbit" hutch for them. But I want to keep them with me, especially in the winter.)

Sorry to hear about your first two... what happened?

i did notice and remember the lady saying the blue was 'pet quality' meaning she only has 4 toes- which may explain some of it. As far as my other two-

Spike was the first i lost, 3 months old, he became paralyzed, i worked with him for about a month, he seemed to be getting better then contracted a respiratory infection and was gone- he just couldn't fight any more. That was 2 weeks ago, then this weekend i was out of town, hubby was taking care of Puddin, she was Spikes hatchmate and a real love, well, hubby went in to check her sunday and she was gone- i can't figure it out and i still feel like i failed her somehow. But, i can only move on, and these are part of that- not sure if they are cock or hens- but they are sweet

yes, they are 'house chickens', i am an artist and they live in my art studio with my duccle, Nimi (the icon), and a rescued sparrow and 4 finches- they get some sun, was thinking some time outside would be good for them too, to e 'real' chickens if i am out there too.

That didn't help at all, its too danged dark and its a dark bird. I need to be able to see the bird move. Take the splash and move her further away to force the blue one to move towards here. Put a sheet or something light colored down on the floor.

Have you checked the feet yet? Four toes would not cause that unstable movement.

Have you checked them for scaly leg mites? If they have an advanced case, they look like that before it gets worse. Silkies are apparently prone to getting these mites because of their feathered feet. Treatable with Ivermectin. Look at the scales on her feet and see if they are raised or have yellowish material caked onto them. Hope this helps.

Ditto that (and easy to miss)
I would get some AviaCharge 2000 (you can order online from McMurry ) Make sure they get enough sunlight and I would immediately give them some Polyvisol enfamil (no extra iron) > three drops in beak once a day for a week and taper off the next (you can give along with the aviacharge)
