We have a 9 month old white bearded Silkie hen.
She recently lost a good deal of feathers off he head.
Used to be she could hardly see they were so thick.

She's gone broody but still eats and drinks when
we take her out to free range in the yard or just take her off
the nest and out in the run. Pictures below

Is she just molting ??
Is this part of being broody?

Did you ever find out what caused her crest feather loss? I also have two silkie hens that went broody and their crest feathers look exactly like that.

The consensus was that she is molting at the same time. I can see the start of new feathers.
We got her some cream legbar eggs to sit on since I can't seem to get her out of broody mode.
