Silkie, Modern MIx?

Mama would be a lemon blue modern game. (In this variety, it is not the dilute lemon/cream that lemon usually refers to, but is an undiluted gold.)

blush! I need a smiley of hitting myself on hte head! I misread the original variety of modern game being used as lemon blue, not SELF blue as was actually stated. mea culpa

NEVER MIND---I just re-read all the posts and for some reason was reading self blue as lemon blue. SCRATCH EVERYTHING I SAID.

Hi! I thought you must've misread.
I have a little blue Naked Neck Silkie girl I want to put with my birchen Modern Game bantam (I just need to hatch a few more NN chicks from her and the Splash Silkie before I move her).
I think a NN with silkie feathering and MGB station / carriage would be interesting.
I love my MGB, but they are the lousiest layers here.

I have hatched two chicks - Modern Game Bantam rooster x OEG Bantam hen. They both had regular length legs. I think that trait must be dominate. It would be fun to see what a Silkie Modern cross would look like.

First off a lot of breeders of Self Blue cross Blacks into them to help with feather quality. I know that this is easily understood with Blue but most don't realize they do it with self blue also. Blacks Moderns in Texas are fairly common

Secondly, the Australians made a Silkie X Modern cross years ago( I think about 20) on purpose and that was to get the Black faces on their Birchen, Brown Red and Blue varieties males. In England they did it with Sumatra's to get the black faces.
