He is gorgeous.. I got Tom from Bob (Ultra1classic) from here. I picked Tom up at at last years PA Chickenstock.
Gerri and Hannah came from 1234muki from Ebay. She has very nice stock.
I just ordered 2 dozen eggs from Bobbi Porto, can't wait to get them.
Tom is breeding with his 2 ladies, but they haven't started laying yet. I can't wait to test my eggs (bator is already plugged in)

Are you all about silkie? What made you pick silkies? Me. well, i am all about silkies. they are just the cutest, coolest, most interesting birds i have ever saw. I picked silkies because of there looks, how docile they are, and they are very broody and i LOVE to hatch. every spring i always hatch some type of bird. i have hatched silkies(i have 2 very sad stories) turkeys, quail, frizzles, and many more.

Sad story 1: The very first time i tried to hatch silkies 12out of 15 eggs were fertile and only 3 hatched but they turned out beautiful but then a bunch of animals got to them

Sad stroy 2: the second time i hatched them all eggs were fertile but only one hatched but he was born with his insides out and he couldnt see so i was hand feeding him and he lasted for 2 months but then all of a sudden you could tell he was in pain so i had to put him to sleep

(very sad time for me) that was the last time i tried to hatch a silkie

OKK sounds great! Srry i ask a lot of question but i am trying to find the perfect silkie breeder. How much is shipping?

For 6+ eggs it would be $12 for 12+ eggs it would be $15.

For chicks it depends on how many starting from $30 for express mail which includes box.

OK thank you. you are veryyyy helpful!! one more question! do you have a hatchery?

I have my own little hobby business. But I am not what you would call a hatchery. I don't have any hatchery stock in my flock. All my stock came from breeders who show there stock and have won. I also show mine. I have spent a lot of money getting my flock. If you get from a hatchery you will get hatchery stock. I breed to show. If you are just using them for pets to have around and you aren't planning on showing them then the hatchery is a good place. Unless you want really pretty chickens to be your lawn ornaments then you don't want hatchery.

I hope this helps you out. I started out with hatchery stock years ago and then saw everyone else's and had to have the big puff balls. So I gave away all my hatchery stock and got the big fluff balls. Silkies are by far my favorite breed then Ameraucana's are my next favorites.

I have had my share of losing birds to predators. Shipped eggs are a gamble, thats why I can't wait to hatch from my own birds.
Yes.. as far as chickens, Silkies are all I have. They are so different, and are very sweet to my 3 young children. Every few weeks, we take all the birds and give them baths and blow dry them. I have not come across a silkie that does not like to be bathed and blown dry. The kids love it. They are so pretty when they are clean. I have my birds in pens for the winter in my basement. If you plan on showing them in the future, the winters can be hard on the birds and their feathers, so I bring them in. I also have ducks which I sell the eggs, but I am planning on rehoming all 6 over the spring. Need more room to bred my silkies

As Reese Poultry says, I am one of the people that does not show but I wanted to have decent looking Silkies. I chose not to buy from a hatchery and purchase birds from Show Quality stock but are not Showable for various reasons. The person I bought from kept the best birds and had many pairs for sale last year. Breeders will sell off the birds they are not going to show or breed and then we are able to also have Beautiful Silkies. I am Thrilled with my Silkies.
