Hi all, so I have a silkie who is about 8wks old. Ever since I got her, she has always lived inside. But recently, I have been letting her run in my 4 outside girls's run, while they free-range. But today, she got out and was ranging with the girls. Unfortunatly, when I discovered her escape, my eldest outside girl was chasing her. I rescued my silkie, but now I am afraid to let her range with the girls. She seems SO lonely all by herself. Also, when she is in the run, she just cries for a friend, because the bigger girls ignore her. Should I get her a "mom" silkie, a friend, or nothing????? Thanks in advance!!!

Hi! I'm no expert on the matter, but we have 2 silkies and 1 teeny tiny bantam Cochin and they are in with our 7 large girls. We have never had a single problem! In fact, the smallest Cochin is the "baby" of the bunch to the bigger chickens. Is there a reason you don't want your silkie with the others?

HI! As I said in my question, one of my most gentlest hen tried to attack her. Imagine what my big Wynadottes could do to a little chick! I think I might buy another silkie her age and build them a separate area.

Best bet is to get another chick about the same age I've had chick's killed by adults normal introduce chickens there would be some bullying to establish Dominence but with a chick this young I would rather keep them separate get another chick or 2

I agree. I will look for another Silkie!

Hi! Unfortuently I didnt see the part in your post where it says about the attack, so sorry about that! but yes certainly if that's the case I would get more silkie friends! :)

Put her in a basket and carry her around with you. :) But if that's not feasible, I suppose you could get a couple more Silkies.

Silkies are incredibly docile birds, and because of that they will be on the low end of the pecking order when in a flock with more aggressive birds.

When the Silkie is in the run, do the other birds know she's there? Exposing them to each other early will help to keep the chaos of introducing new flock members to a minimum.

When they are together, my Silkie hides in a corner, to afraid to interact with them.
