I have a Silkie pullet who appears to be broody, yet she's never even laid before, as far as I know. She seems pretty determined to hatch an egg from my Call duck, which I'm 95% sure isn't fertile. Isn't it pretty unusual for a pullet to go broody when it's never even laid? Maybe she has laid, and I just haven't found the eggs or didn't know they were hers. My birds free range so I suppose it's possible.

My guess is that she has laid eggs. Pullets often go broody; two of mine have in the last two months. I have never heard of a hen going broody without first laying eggs.
