Didn’t know where else to post this, do silkies normally have an extra toe on each foot? I noticed it on Carolina Reaper my black silkie the on Yeti my paint and Jolokia my grey/blue(I think it’s called blue?)

Yes they do and that's why I can't sex them until it crows or clucks n squats. They are very cute kind and fun loving chickens even my roosters are. I had an Easter egger that I had loose on my property that was a guard rooster who's best friend is my silkie rooster June Clyde and my silkie hen may. So I have found silkies are great chickens but hard to tell what sex they are. Their toes don't help because they all have the extra toes. Enjoy ur little fluffy kids cuz they stay soft!

That’s so sweet! My silkies mixed right in with my flock, I was told chickens will bully silkies but so far that’s not happening at all, even when the hens got in with the chicks.
Can you tell by the waddles at all? I’m hoping Jolokia is a male and so far he/she is the only one with waddles

Well bred Silkies should have 5 toes according to their standard of perfection.

Your black one.. looks more like partridge in color. And female colored so far.

Your blue one.. having more visible wattles.. also looks maybe to be non bearded.. which is accepted by the standard though not as cute. The bearding gene inhibits wattle size so non bearded will appear to be larger wattled.

That blue one.. looks younger than the others, possibly making comparison between them irrelevant.

Cute and fun variety! :love

My silkie was able to be third in line of who was lead hen n down the line. I have a mix of giant hens all the way down to my mini. There are only two hens with my mini cuz I had to remove my silkie rooster to a coop with more hens. He doesn't have waddles n my other one doesn't. They r grey and black. My first of two white ones had waddles but very very small ones and my second one had a little bit bigger ones. Now my hen Sasha had small what looked to be waddles but she laid eggs that's how I knew she was a hen. May I found no waddles and she was a hen. So as of now my three chicks that r silkies are one boy, I think and two girls, I think. We test them an old school way. Hold the chick with two fingers just on the neck and let it dangle, if it's wild it's a hen and if it chills out just hangs the it's a rooster. Also I have read that when they are pullets u can tell by when u pick them up the rooster will chill faster then a hen and so far both ways have all been right on the dot. No one has never not been wrong. Except once with the holding because I had a giant sapphire gem hen that when she was a pullet she was a lazy chilling hen. The holding by the neck I have done on chicks up to three weeks old and have been right every time. Good luck. Also if u add new chickens with ur flock try to add them at night after bed time and get up first thing in the early morning and let everyone out and give them treats or food to keep everyone in a good mood. There will be a pecking order done no matter what. U will be surprised when u lead hen gets put out into the lower rank hens! Chickens are fun to bathe hold chase during a game of tag, we have a rooster who does this and make sure u hold them all tell them all their names when holding them and hypnotize ur chickens n see how each one reacts. Good luck sexing silkies when they are pullets to me is hard still after three years of having chicks grow up into chickens n roosters! Enjoy ur flock!

I don’t think Cinnamon would be knocked down the pecking order… she’s pretty tough 😂, my oldest out of the flock, the roo and other hens are almost a year old but she’s about two-four years old and does whatever she wants, she’ll only follow the flock if she wants to.
I have them under the coop right now but I’ll try that once they’re big enough, I’m always worried they’ll end up pecked to bits if I leave for too long but so far my hens only care about the chick food them the actual chicks 😂
