Silkie question

OK, thanks everyone for your input. I didn't really have any idea that Silkies were so different from standard hens. Thanks for the pictures Hens4Fun, they were great. I'm going to show them to my chicken and see if it makes a difference.

We'll keep trying to put her on the roost to see if it makes a difference.
At any rate, live and learn I guess.

Good luck! I didn't realize it was unusual that mine were up so high .... seems they are the exception from what others wrote! I think they must have been pretty cold one evening and really wanted some other body heat

at any rate, they are doing fine!! Guess they like it up with the Big girls!

i have 10 silkys that are over 2 and a half months now and i put them in the maine coop i read that they didnt like to roost i went down to the coop to shut the door did a headcount of the silkys and was missing 1 i looked around the floor and outside and couldnt find it i never expected that thing to be up on my roost which is about at my chest and im 6feet tall and no ramp to it i have no idea how the lil guy got up there but he was huddled up to my standard white rock rooster and it was so funny and cute i need to get a pick next time he just looked so out of place up there but he liked it

None of my new chickens roost at all, some of them get on a low roost during the day. I hate it when my chickens are abnormal. They all sleep huddled together.

Perhaps it's because I hadn't put any roosts in the pen when they were just learning to "fly".

i have 2 white silkies that refuse to roost but im okay with them sleeping on the floor they are still safe just i would rather them roost with the others to keep them warm

Oh how fun these chickens are. Last night we had some heavy rain and wind and it got real cold

Anyway, I couldn't sleep 'cause it was the first night my babies, 6 weeks old, had been out in their coop in a storm. I just kept thinking about them getting wet or cold or who knows. So, I was out there at midnight to check on them. They were all dry and coozy

, but I got soaked

Anyway, I was very surprised to see all 4 of the chicks, including the silkie, up on the roost together

They were fine this morning too.

So for those of you who have silkies that sleep on the floor, do you do anything for them so they don't get pooped on?
