silkie question

I never considered silkies because it seems like they would get things stuck in their feathers and it might snowball into a problem? do they need extra attention in that way?

my silkies and d'uccles (which are also feather footed) i treat just like any other chicken. Silkies just can not fly - so they roost low, usually on the ground. thats about the only consideration - I would get more than 1 however. some will roost up with the others - some just have in ingrained to sleep low or on the ground - so for cold weather they tend to need the warmth of piling up (2 or 3 birds) - other than that - they'll be fine.
