Hi all,
I've got a 1 yr old Silkie roo who not only is the loudest roo I've ever owned, he's got a strange growth and I was curious as to what people might think he's dealing with: he's got a hard, swollen area under one eye, and a small growth by the corner of his mouth that looks like a wart. Inside his mouth (I first noticed this yesterday morning) was a huge, nasty growth.. mostly yellow, some black/blue areas. I was able to gently remove it, came off fairly easy, it was bleeding at the base so I flushed it a few times and he went right back to crowing. Last night when I checked on him he seemed fine, and this morning the growth is BACK... and at 1/2 the size that it was when I took it out yesterday! Area under the eye is back to being swollen, wart is back as well. He's acting fine, but if this is contagious I need to get him out of there asap! There is no odor, so I'm thinking more of a canker than roup, but I have another bird that just started sneezing, so I need to fix this NOW. Any thoughts?

Have you considered that it might be herpes? I believe I read on here that chickens can get them. Worth a search. Good luck with him - scary if it's growing that fast.
