This is the first and only time I have ever found a Rooster Silkie with a puff on his head. They always look so ugly and to me, seem like a quality that should be removed and not accepted. When a hen has a Roo puff, no one wants her, but the Roo can be so ugly?!

This is Sonoran Silkies Silkie Roo that is said to be "henny", to me, we should all be trying to get at least his puff!

In general, his feathering are far more pretty and silkied and fluffy, I'm wondering if this is not the real Silkie they were trying to make back in the day. I would much rather they all looked like this than have a thinning and balding look of a head and their combs/wattles bulbous and obvious.

I'm going to stop myself, I just found a breeder who has these near perfect beauties! Now this guy is on the right track!

I guess I'm just seeing a lot of Roos that could be better. I don't mean to insult or anything, just that I'm hoping this is something breeders are working towards and not just settling on. It would be a real shame to do so. I just can't believe [IMO] that bad/off puff is so common and seems to be standard.

Please let me know if this is something that is still being worked on or is in fact accepted and the norm.
Also, sorry for posting your pics here w/o asking, hope you can forgive me.

They look so much softer and fluffier when 'henny', its very pretty!
Sure it would make sexing that much harder, but I'm sure they would still sell like hotcakes!

One of the things I pride my rooster on is having a large crest...that has always been my favorite physical feature on a Silkie. The breeder I bought him from thought he was a hen when I purchased him. When he started crowing, I didn't fret. He was just what I wanted.

He doesn't meet standard in certain places but his crest is okay. He isn't perfect...but he's mine.

He's so shinny, like a star!

Here's my Roo[note, this is him on a good day with no rain for months, lol!]

My Black Silkie chick, she's looking very good for her age, might end up a roo. White Rooster's dirty butt, it rained...]

And my Blue girl, juvie, might end up a roo too, idk. She's very fluffy, been a looker since she hatched.

I've got a Partridge Frizzle, may be a roo[in the 1st pic w/blue silkie]. A White Sizzle, maybe hen[pictured below] & a White Cochin X Silkie roo[in the roost picture]. That's the extent of my Silkie family.

This Guy's Crest is much better now, he has turned out to be a very nice Showgirl Rooster. I love Showgirl Hens, but have never really seen a Showgirl Rooster that I liked, but he has turned out to be gorgeous!

I thought it was a pretty good forum for those of us working on Rooster's crest.

Lol, sorry it died on your post. I've been checking it over and over...nothing, lol. Guess no one else wants to admit their roo might need hair plugs!

I am totally with you guys! This has been why I have avoided the Silkies because i never found the Roo's Attractive. But I finally had to give in and im getting a pair of buffs from CJ Exotics in the fall!!!!
