Hello,

My family and I are new to the world of chickens, and we are loving it, except for the part where we may have a rooster and would have to rehome him. We have 6 very young chickens, and 2 of them are silkies. one of them crowed the other day, so that was an easy tell, but we are having trouble with the other. Can you please give me your best judgement on it? The white one is the one that crowed the other day.

I'm seeing those rusty red feathers coming in on the shoulders, that means it's 99% a cockerel... Kinda crazy though because of how notoriously difficult silkies are to sex yet the color partridge (like the bird in question, or he's at least a similar color) can sometimes make it easier : D sorry you ended up with two boys though :"(

Thanks for your help, I was able to rehome them today. Bummed they had to go, they were very sweet chickens.

The black one is a cockerel (the rust in the wing feathers is a giveaway). Need closeups of the comb on the white one to determine the gender but if you saw it crow it’s definitely a boy. :)
