do silkie roos do well as a rooster in a mixed flock? Are they every aggressive? Are they noisy crowers and how often do they crow?

I had a Silkie Rooster who was raised from day 1 with his flock-mates (a BA, 4 PRs, a Silkie hen, a BO, 3 EEs), one of whom was a Barred Rock Roo and they never had a moment's aggression between them or any of their brooder mates. They were all together until they were 6 months old and then I adopted my Silkie roo out. That's just my experience. He was also fairly vocal. I didn't find him any more or less chatty than the BR roo and I thought he would be quieter b/c he was a banty, but he wasn't. They crow whenever they want to. It didn't bother me, in fact, I thought it was charming. My neigbor? Not so much.

I think that ADDING a rooster to an existing flock is a whole different beast though.

depends on the roo. I have one silkie roo that crows alot the other hardly ever. sometimes you have to worry about other chickens picking on the silkie, something about the crest attracts them. some do great in a mixed flock.

right now i just have a silkie roo and a pullet who isn't yet laying but am getting 5 chicks soon. do you think it would be ok if i carefully introduced the chicks to the pullet, and if it is ok should i separate her from the roo? Would it be ok to put the chicks in to my big coop were the 2 silkies live?
