Hi guys so I came down to check on the chickens and noticed my rooster and a hen acting funny. They are guarding a corner of the run - or so it seems to me. The roo is a juvenile, and the hen hasn’t layed before, though she is due to start judging by her age. Both are around 6 months.
The rooster is standing tall, beak open and wings held out a little to make himself look bigger. He hasn’t crowed yet, but managed a strange half-crow a couple of times. He normally runs to me for a hug, but no cuddles today. Attached a pic to see. Other chooks seem unusually noisy, but not sure if I’m imagining that. No predators about - I checked.
Is this mating behaviour??

Aw thanks! My husband thinks I have too many, but I keep finding pretty ones! I have 9 - a lavender Sussex, 4 silkies, blue australorp, barnevelder, silkie x (not sure what with but she is black and has a Pom Pom head but flat feathers) and a Plymouth Rock.

I completely understand. You just cannot say no to a gorgeous chicken, or at least I can't. Barnevelder, silkie, blue laced red wyandotte, etc they are all so beautiful and it's like yes, yes, yes I do want you, too! Thank you! lol Please come in to my life! hahaha! Back to the subject matter: I do hope your birds are coming of age, if that's what you want them to be.
