Silkie rooster "assisting" hen to lay egg?

I noticed the strangest thing today. My silkie hen, who laid her first egg a couple days ago, and is only 4 months old, was in the coop with a silkie rooster. There was a ruckus because the older Wyandotte didn't like them being in there. The Wyandotte finally left and the silkie rooster was walking around the silkie hen, sort of protecting her and cooing to her and she jumped in the nesting box. The rooster was hovering around, like an expectant father, still cooing and sometimes sticking his head in the box. He never left her side until she had laid the egg! (Our nest boxes are milk crates on the ground.). Has anyone seen a rooster do this? And am I right to think he was protecting her and maybe encouraging her? Or just mansplaining how to lay an egg? LOL.

Yes, my roosters do the same thing, they even get into the nesting boxes and prepare them for their beloved "expecting mother" by building a "nicer hollow" .

These are very good roosters, keep him!

That is so cool. He's a keeper then!

I have two silkie roosters who do the same thing. I noticed he preps the area for her but thought it was my imagination. He will also sometimes sit on there like he's laying an egg. I just thought he was confused...lol

I also noticed another thing about mine. When feeding, especially blueberries, they will cluck and give them to the hen. He even goes to the trouble of picking it up and dropping it in front of her. Such a gentleman.
