I have also heard pick them up by the scruff of the neck. The roos will pull their legs up to their tummys and the hens will hang them down

Hey there, I have two silkies, a white and blue one. The chicks are like, 9 days old. I tried it with a wool hat, and the white silkie named Yevs started cheeping loudly and had an erect neck. it took a few tries, but I think Yevs is a roo, according to the method. I yet have to check the blue silkie.

I had 3 bantams which a guy sexed using the pendulum method. He told me they we all hens and my pekin and the buff silkie turned out to be roos! 1 out of 3 isn't great odds i'm thinking!!!
