Has anyone had an older silkie stop laying eggs for a long period of time? She is 5 years old and she hasn’t been broody or laid an egg since the first week of March. She seems content with her self. I’m just wondering how normal this is or if age is now becoming the factor ?

Sometimes an older chicken will stop laying for a while, or altogether. I would say that at 5 years, it is normal.
Thank you , I wasn’t sure, I kept hoping her laying would start. But if that seems normal than that’s reassuring :) my other older hens are still laying. She is my only older girl who isn’t. And she’s always been a good layer in the summer. Maybe it’s time I add some more :)

Well, my information is coming from my store of 'random chicken knowledge' rather than personal experience.

All of our silkies are young and in lay or tending towards broody. I think it is you who are the expert here.
I wish I knew! :D i only have 1 silkie, so I’m limited to how normal or unusual this would be. She has always been a good layer or broody during the summer. I hope she stays with us for a long time. Love my little fluffy girl :)
